When Mandy and I first heard about the ministry of Grace Harbor Church, we were attracted to the strategic nature of their ministry in the Tokyo Water Front. There are four strategic reasons for church-planting in the Water Front Area of Tokyo.
New community - the Water Front is a newly developed residential area. The area is comprised of seven islands in the Tokyo harbor. Since it is a new community the church has a unique opportunity to get in on the ground level of shaping the identity and culture of that community. They are showing themselves to be key stake-holders in the welfare and flourishing of the area.
Young families - the Water Front is home to many young families. Our team is comprised of mostly young families which makes for many natural relationships. Ministry to families with young children is natural and strategic in establishing lasting communities of faith.
Tokyo leaders - the Water Front is home to many of Tokyo's leaders in finance, business and government. Our prayer is that this would be the beginning of a church-planting movement in Tokyo and what better place to begin to reach Tokyo than with its leaders.
No other church - Probably the most compelling reason is that the Water Front has no other church of any kind. The Water Front is home to 130,000 people and growing in an area of 2 square miles.
